What's a Web Site?
A Web site is just a place where a collection of web pages or html documents are located.

Here's an article to help you Visualize A Web Site

There were around 16 million of them as of early 2003. You can design and  setup a website of your own fairly easily in as little as a day or two. I am going to walk you through the steps that you will need to follow, giving a little explanation along the way.

If you can type a letter in Microsoft Word, you can be live on the Web in 2 Days.

You can create a page in Word and then save it as an webpage. It will have an extension of .htm or .html. That's a webpage. If you already have a Word document that you would like to have on a web site, just open it in Word and save it as a web page. Put it on your webserver and you are live, on the Internet.

Microsoft FrontPage makes it easy and mostly automatic to get your website "published" to your web host. It keeps up with all the webpages, images, navigational linking and sends everything that is needed to your host. It  knows what needs to be saved and reminds you if you forget.

How about domain names?

You don’t have to have your own domain name to have a website on a webserver somewhere else. You can use the domain name owned and hosted by someone else.  Geocities is an example of this. You use their domain name with some variation such as a subdomain or a subdirectory. Here’s a couple of examples.

But these addresses tell the visitors that it is probably a free site and they judge you on that basis. You will get more respect if you have your own domain name.

Domain name prices can range from around $9 to $60 or more. Names are generally registered or one or two years. We offer Domain Name Registration through an affiliation with GoDaddy.Com. The charge is $8.75 for one year. Just enter the name of the domain that you would like in the box below.

You have the option of getting a FREE basic hosting account. Since it's free, it will have ads placed on it to pay for it. You might want to use this if you are just starting so you can see how things work. But for a few dollars a month you can get hosting WITHOUT ads.

Ok, now that you have the domain name, you need to also tell the registrar where you will be hosting your web site.

Notify your Domain Name Registrar about the Name Servers.

You give them the address of the hosting company’s  nameservers (usually two of them) . The name servers addresses will have names like other web sites. Here's info for my recommendations:

    Host4Profit   Dollarware Hosting
Nameserver 1     ns.my-ehost.com  ns1.e3-gecko.com
Nameserver 2   ns2.my-ehost.com  ns2.e3-gecko.com

Your registrar will usually have a special form on their website in which to enter the nameserver information. You usually find it under something like “Manage Your Domain”. or "Set NameServers".

The registrar then, will publish this information and it will slowly  travel (propagate) through the Internet. Actually new information is transferred from one connecting device (Routers) to another automatically until it is said to have “propagated” throughout the internet. This just means that anyone can now find your website by typing its address into their browsers.  This propagation process takes from 24 to 48 hours to complete.

The hosting company's nameservers will make the connection to your site.

You’re done. That is, you have your web site’s html pages created, you have them “uploaded” to the webserver. You have a domain name which becomes the address of the site.

Now just tell the World about your new website by getting your site listed in the search engines and maybe running some ads.

How to get your hosting FREE another way!

I recommend Host4Profit if you feel that you would recommend your a hosting service to others or if you want to SELL hosting. Once you setup a hosting account with Host4Profit, you can become an affiliate and earn money, just by referring others to Host4Profit.

I have had hosting with them for almost a year. Their service is very reliable and easy to use.

Refer three and your hosting is free.
